What Brand of Power Tools to Buy

As a contractor I'm asked all the time on what tools do I need and more importantly what brand is best.

Well it's really not so much what brand is good as in what brand is good for me. I mean if you're going to use these tools all day and everyday of course you would want the best.

But like most home owners you'll just need a tool once in a great while. However when it comes to screw drivers you will want a a good set. With screw drivers, the better they are the better they will grip your screw without so much on the stripping them out.

But let's look a power tools for a second. Sure you can buy a cordless screw driver for .00 or you could buy what I use, a Dewalt 24 volt for more then 0. The difference is big, in performance and cost. But do you really need that 0 drill collecting dust.

For the most part and for convenience I buy my tools from Home Depot. But if you walked into a real tool store. By this I mean a store that just sells tools you'll see many brands I bet you never heard of. Brands and types of tools that would just blow your mind. Just check out the prices and you'll soon learn that the home stores really just cater to the home owner in us all.

Just always think about what you're buying this tool for and how much you will using it when you see the price.

Most Exciting New Power Tools of 2010 - 2011: The Honorable Mentions

It has occurred to me that in a previous article highlighting my top 5 picks for the most exciting new power tools of this year, I didn't give these "honorable mentions" the face-time they deserve. As a result, I am now morally compelled to revisit them and provide the reasons each of these tools deserve their spaces among the top 10 most innovative, exciting, and generally awesome new power tools of 2010 and 2011.

Recognizing these tools in no particular order, I'll begin with:

- Makita's SH01W 12v Compact Cordless 3-3/8" Circular Saw:
This is the kind of power tool that everyone on planet Earth should own. It's industrially powerful and high-performance while still being one of the most compact tools I've ever encountered. The thing weighs only 3.3-lbs rendering it simple to maneuver and operate, and despite being so extremely compact, the circ saw still has a 1" cutting capacity big enough to cut through just about anything you'd really need it to. The saw is extremely comfortable to use, offers a surprising amount of power from such a little tool, and runs with one of the most sophisticated lithium-ion battery systems on the market today - it's truly an ideal addition to any crafter's power tool repertoire.

Using a Cordless Battery Powered Circular Saw

A cordless battery powered circular saw is one tool that I will always keep in my possession. When they first came out a lot of experts were skeptical about how much power they would have. Well they aren't as powerful as a corded circular saw but they run a close second.
 
Cordless battery powered circular saws are designed to handle 2x stock. All the saws come with carbide tipped blades. This is because you need a sharper, better cutting blade with this tool because you wouldn't have the reserve power to force the blade through your cut if the blade was dull.

Cordless Dewalt

Most manufacturers sell these saws in kits with other cordless battery powered tools, usally a cordless battery power drill. Skill is one manufacturer who does not sell this tool by itself. So check around and see if anybody does sell it by itself and also check if it comes with a extra battery. I recommend getting a extra battery so that while you are working you can have a battery ready for when the battery in the saw starts to lose power. Most of these batteries recharge themselves in about a half hour.

Cordless Dewalt

Safety is not a big concern because this tool is lightweight and easy to handle. Just be careful to always remember that when the battery is in it's just like having a corded tool plugged in.

On a scale of 1 to 10 on the importance of having this tool in your shop, I give it a 10. This tool is great for many projects and so easy to handle it is a must have tool for everybody.

Two years late Ralph created the DeWalt Products Co. to produce the first of the many widely manufactured and distributed the Tools, the Wonder-Worker, a table saw with radial arm.

Rapid Expansion

The Second World War brought government orders in 1941, for tools and machinery to comply with national defense and wartime requirements.

Power Tools Progress

Over the next 24 years they steadily grew and introduced to new products, the bench grinder in 1967 and metal cutting machines for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in 1971.

Spectacular Growth - Portable Power Tools

The most notable growth of the company came in 1992 when the first portable electric Power Tools and accessories were introduced. These were specifically designed for the baby boomers' housing boom and the increase need for residential contractors, re-modelers, and professional woodworkers.
